Funding the
next chapter.

Equine and sport funding across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. A published funding pot is not an individual entitlement: applicant type, location and project rules matter.

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND · 2027 CALL REPORTED OPEN

Equine Technical Support & Equine Breeding Scheme

A 2027 programme has been announced, with a reported total allocation of €854,000 and an application deadline of 5pm, Friday 11 December 2026. The published headings are general support, training and education, and research into equine diseases.

Who should check: organisations developing equine breeding, education or research projects. Do not assume this pays individual riding bills, horse purchases or ordinary yard costs. Applicant eligibility, eligible costs and award limits must be confirmed in the Department’s programme terms.

The announcement and deadline were corroborated in the Irish Farmers Journal report of 21 October 2026. The official terms page could not be retrieved during this review; eligibility has therefore not been certified here.

Sport NI: Creating Opportunities

National Lottery support for new projects that make sport and physical activity more inclusive. Sport NI’s June 2026 announcement offers 65% match funding, up to £5,000, through crowdfunding. Campaigns and activity must be completed by 31 March 2027; this is a completion date, not an advertised application deadline.

Who should check: eligible Northern Ireland sports clubs and community organisations planning additional participation projects. A dressage club must check that its organisation and activity meet the programme criteria. This is not a personal competition grant or automatic support for commercial yards.

Earlier FAQ documents still mention 50%; the newer 3 June 2026 announcement states 65%. Confirm the award terms with Sport NI before setting a budget.

NORTHERN IRELAND · NEXT ALLOCATION ANNOUNCED FOR NOVEMBER

Sport NI: Olympic Legacy Fund 2026/27

Community sports facilities and equipment funding for eligible NI clubs, community groups and charities. The official page describes 65% crowdfunding support and projects of £5,000–£50,000, with larger projects considered where additional funding is evidenced. The first application window closed on 14 October 2026; a further £1m allocation is announced for November.

Action: check the next call and recognised-sport criteria. Do not treat the first-round window as open. The official page gives an impossible completion date, “31 June 2027”; obtain the correct date from the fund team before planning.

HSI breeding initiatives: watch the next call

The published HSI page lists its 2026 initiatives as closed. Previous schemes covered mare breeding, retention, X-ray screening, embryo transfer, starting and schooling. These are useful routes for eligible sport-horse breeders to watch, but no 2027 application dates, award rates or continuation are confirmed here.

DAERA rural opportunities

DAERA lists rural development routes including Rural Micro Capital and digital transformation support. This is a directory to check, not evidence of an open 2027 equine grant. Eligibility for an equestrian enterprise or community project depends on the individual call.

Prepare before applying.

Confirm the eligible applicant, project location, permitted costs, match funding, start-date rules, evidence requirements and deadline with the funder. Keep a clear project plan, quotes, ownership or lease evidence where relevant, governance records and a realistic budget. Avoid committing expenditure until the scheme’s rules permit it.
